WHAT'S YOUR 7 POINT AGENDA? |
As you know, the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has a “7
Point Agenda” with which they use as milestones to mark their
achievements for success. In that regard, I thought that I might ask
you what your “7 Point Agenda for Success” might be.
First, I’d like to thank everyone who bought a copy of last week
Sunday’s edition of This Day Newspaper (with the edition that had Tara
and I featured), for all of you who sent messages via FaceBook, to
those who sent me text messages or were led to say a word of prayer of
some sort, we’d like to say a big “Thank You”!
As you’ve heard me say before, my life is just a picture of what your minimum standard should and would be.
Referring to the interview, quite a number of people had asked me to
explain what true success really is, and so, I thought that I might
shed some light on the matter.
As you know, the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has a “7
Point Agenda” with which they use as milestones to mark their
achievements for success. In that regard, I thought that I might ask
you what your “7 Point Agenda for Success” might be.
As we embark on this journey of self discovery today, I’d ask you to
tick off, on a sheet of paper; your honest assessment of yourself and
make corrections or adjustments as the need arises.
Here we go! True success is predicated along these 7 dimensions.
YOUR AGENDA # 1
• KNOW YOUR GOD:
this is not meant to be a religious exercise. Do you have a personal
relationship with your Creator? Do you have a relationship that is
intimate and separate from your Pastor or Imam’s knowledge of Him? The
closer you are to God, the more He speaks to you and lets you in on
secrets He reserves for His friends. The Bible says that “those that
know their God shall be strong and shall do exploits”(Daniel 11:32)!
I would be nothing without God! A lot of people seem to regard me as
some sort of myth, or my results as either “magic or miraculous”, but
please remember that all God needs from you is a willing and obedient
heart, and then He puts everything else into and through your hands!
People wonder why I talk about God so much, why I’m invited to preach
in many churches as I do (I actually spend less time as I really want
in my church because I’m in so many churches during the year)! It was
God who brought me out of my “one room room” where I lived for 8 years,
squatted a friend (who left me there to move into a 3 bedroom apartment
in Yaba) and then married Tara in abject poverty, to the point where
today, I live the life of my dreams, in VGC! Who else could do that?
It’s not luck, it’s God!
YOUR AGENDA # 2
• DISCOVER YOUR PURPOSE:
This is soooo important! We’ve heard Dr. Myles Munroe say over and
over again that “when the purpose of a thing is unknown, abuse is
inevitable”. Look at the word “abuse”. It’s the compendium of two
words; “ab” and “use” which means “abnormal use”. When something is
abused, it’s being abnormally used! We talk a lot about child abuse,
spousal abuse, drug abuse and substance abuse. But the most subtle and
dangerous of all is self abuse. My question to you today is …are you
being abused? So how do I discover my purpose, assignment or natural
habitat as I like to call it? For the lack of time, may I crave your
indulgence to click on this link to learn more (http://www.feladurotoye.org/content/view/102/101/).
YOUR AGENDA # 3
• IDENTIFY YOUR GIFTS:
Everyone walking the earth is gifted… potentially. I say this
because even though God has invested in you great ability, that latent
ability will always remain latent until action spurs it into reality.
Potential is really what you can have achieved but have not yet done!
The difference between potential and performance is practice. What are
you passionate about?
YOUR AGENDA # 4
• DEVELOP YOUR GIFTS INTO SOLUTIONS
Problems only have the right to be called problems because there’s a
solution somewhere. It stands to reason that there can be no problem
without a solution. This is the tricky part for most people, who have
discovered their gifts but don’t know how to profit from it. First, you
must realize that people don’t pay for talent, they pay for skill!
Talent is innate and inborn, but skill is “diligent, disciplined and
developed talent”! Real Madrid paid a huge sum of money (£ 80 million)
for the signature and services of Christiano Ronaldo. Where they paying
for his talent or his skill? Of course, it was his skill! Are you
talented or skilful?
So, how do you turn your gifts into solutions? Here are some questions you must ask yourself!
o What is my gift?
o What product can it be turned into?
o What problem does it solve?
o Who has the problem or who are my customers?
o Where are they located?
o How much do they earn?
o How will they find me?
o What is my solution worth?
o Why me or what makes me special?
o Who are my competitors or how easy is it to replace me?
Once you can answer these questions, you’re well on your way to financial independence!
YOUR AGENDA # 5
• WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR FREE AND STILL EARN A FEE?
Please write this next few words down. They can change your life!
“God’s greatest desire for me is to earn a fee, doing something that He
created me to do for free!” That’s the key to freedom right there!
Most of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs, celebrities and
sportsmen have discovered and use this timeless secret! All it takes is
a keen eye for you to see that what I’m saying is true. Let me give you
a few hints.
o Bill Gates (age: 54 discovered his passion at the age of 13, gained
admission into Harvard to study Law, loved Computers and Information
Technology so much that he dropped out and created a company that has
become a global phenomenon today!)
o Mark Zuckerberg (age 25: He started programming when he was in middle
school. Zuckerberg launched Facebook from his Harvard dorm room on
February 4, 2004. On October 24, 2007, Facebook Inc. sold a 1.6% stake
to Microsoft Corp. for $240 million, rejecting a competing offer from
online search leader Google Inc. Today, he is worth $2 billion)
o Oprah (age 55: She experienced considerable hardship during her
childhood, including being raped at the age of nine and becoming
pregnant at 14; her son died in infancy.[ Winfrey landed a job in radio
while still in high school and began co-anchoring the local evening
news at the age of 19. Winfrey's career choice in media did not
surprise her grandmother, who once said that ever since Winfrey could
talk, she was on stage.
As a child she played games interviewing her corncob doll and the crows
on the fence of her family's property. Winfrey later acknowledged her
grandmother's influence, saying it was Hattie Mae who had encouraged
her to speak in public and "gave me a positive sense of myself."[.
Today, her net worth’s over $2.3 billion)
o Tiger Woods (age 33: Woods was a child prodigy who began to play golf
at the age of two. At age three, he shot a 48 over nine holes at the
Navy Golf Club in Cypress, California, and at age five, he appeared in
Golf Digest and on ABC's That's Incredible. In 1984 at the age of eight
he won the 9–10 boys' event, the youngest age group available, at the
Junior World Golf Championships. He went on to win the Junior World
Championships six times, including four consecutive wins from 1988 to
1991. Currently the World No. 1, he was the highest-paid professional
athlete in 2008, having earned an estimated $110 million from winnings
and endorsements.
o Fela Durotoye (age 38: Fela often used to get smacked for talking
“too much” in class. His siblings also used to pay him off to keep
quiet and now organisations pay him in over 7 digits to keep talking…
to be continued.
I think you get the point. These people would still engage in these
“callings” even if there was no fee attached. What can you do for free
and still earn a fee?
YOUR AGENDA # 6
• HAVE A WONDERFUL FAMILY THAT YOU ARE PROUD OF:
True success isn’t all about money! It’s about “total life
prosperity”. There’s nothing worse than succeeding in public and
failing in private; especially where it matters most… in your family.
Former CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch was renowned as the 20th
century’s greatest manager, but the day after he retired from GE, his
wife divorced him even though he had taken GE from a market value of
$14 billion to one of more than $410 billion at the end of 2004, making
it the most valuable and largest company in the world. Family comes
first! As busy as I get, travelling all over the world, I make out time
to spend with Tara and my boys.
Helping my sons with their homework, watching cartoons with them…just
being a good father and a loving husband to my wife means more than
this world to me. If the whole world celebrates me and my family
tolerate me, then I’ve failed. You might not be married yet, but build
lasting, positive relationships with your family and friends. There’s
nothing better!
YOUR AGENDA # 7
• LIVE IN PEACE WITH ALL MEN TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY:
As much as you can, live amicably and peaceably. You may not have
the money yet, but what you have is a name! God promises to make your
name great. So I’d like you to be conscious of the fact that your
results, behaviour and personality will help to spread your name for
good or otherwise. Use today to build a great legacy for yourself and
for your children!
By now, you’ve gone through your 7 Point Agenda. How are you doing so far?
If this has helped you in any way, please be a blessing by sharing it with as many people in your friend lists as possible.
Make everyday count, recognising that every day you must deliver the future.
You can, you must, you will!
