This deals with your goals. Your
goal is not a goal until it is documented. Any goal not documented is only a
wish. However note that we are not recognized and rewarded for having
beautifully crafted goals- we are rewarded for achieving them.
Most of us are lazy about goal
setting and like I said, it is not fun. It takes you sitting down with a pen
and paper and telling yourself in clear letters what you intend to achieve.
Especially if you are planning on doing a business, you need to understand the
importance of focusing on a particular line of business you want to launch your
business with.
Why do I
need to achieve it?
The why of doing your business is
almost as important as making a name in the business area? If your goal is to
lose particular KGs at the end of the year, why do you need to reduce the
weight at all?
When answering the why message, the
urgency and importance of the goal comes to life. The need to succeed becomes
important, as your challenges is clear, and the possibility of
achieving the desired goal also comes up.You need to answer this question.
For whom am
I doing this?
When the challenges or the need to
achieve your goal becomes clear, it is also needful for the aim to be achieved.
If starting a business, you must be able to define a target market. You must
also be able to define where your market reach is. Having a business without
understanding how to reach your target market is like winking at a lady in the
dark- you are doing your best to get her attention, and she has absolutely no
idea about what you are doing.
Long and short, you need to get a
way to help your project reach your target market.
How do I
bring this thing to pass?
This will help you break your goals
into executable activity. Most times our goals are grand and beautiful but we usually
do not tie them to what we do daily and hence fail in hitting out target in the
long run.
When
the method is known, all you
need would immediately be obvious. your ability to understand the
requirements of the business will ensure you are not caught by suprise
With whom am I doing this?
There are times your dreams are
bigger than you are and you will be needing people to help and partner with you
on your dreams, you need to identify the people and what value they would be
adding to your business venture. Do not call people or even employees if you do
not know the details of the plan of action.
Who else is
doing this?
This takes you to competitor analysis. You need to understand
what the competitor is doing. It makes you understand what they are doing well,
especially in areas they exhibit their weaknesses. This could be a great
insight for your business as to position it in an advantangeous position.
When am I
starting?
A plan without a starting point is like a game without a goal
post. You need to know exactly when you want to start the business and what you
must do daily to get closer to that goal.
How much do
I need now?
Most of us have grand ideas of what to do, when to start and
how much we need, but then we do not ask how much we need to do the next
immediate thing that would move us towards our goals.
If we think carefully, the amount needed to start is not the amount stopping you, it is the amount you need to suceed . Start from where you are, don't wait for perfect conditions- they may never come.
